How do you politely tell a male co-worker that his long hair nose desperately needs a trim?

There is NO way to politely or appropriately broach this with someone who is only a co-worker to you.

Tell him he needs to blow his nose because there's something hanging out of it. Then you tell him it's still there & that he should go take a look in the mirror.

Unfortunately you will have to let it be, or send him an anonymous note.  Chances are though that he probably still won't trim them.  I knew someone like that too and we finally convinced another guy to tell him, but it was ignored.  Crazy, go figure, but to each his own i guess.  Try to limit your time with him.

what i usually do is when me and friends are in a large group of people i casually bring up the subject and i say yeah its so gross..and then say if it hangs past your nose you need to trim it. but dont look at him..then h**l know its directed towards him.but dont try to avoid him so that its noticable. hopefully he'll take the hint. this may sound mean but there is no way you can tell people things like this in a nice way.

I think you are talking about me.  stop it.  The only way to get rid of hair in my nose is to grip it with a pair of pliers and pull it out by the roots.  Smarts but it's effective.
