How do you pollinate pumpkin flowers?

  1. The first flowers are male, later the females appear (they have the swelling at the base of the flower.  Take a little paint brush and twirl inside the male flower then immediately take it to the female and dab or twirl over the pistil.  Don't do this during heat of day as pollen may dry.  It's a good idea to have several plants to make sure there are boys and girls flowering at the same time.   OR you can just leave it up to the bees...if you've seen them in your garden.


  2. We usually leave one or two flowers on the vine so that the growth is concentrated on both of them. Just pinch off the other flowers. I'm not sure what you mean by pollenating b/c I think they do that on their own. Hope this helped. Good Luck!
