How do you pop a wheelie?

I just recently bought a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja 500r. It rides great and it’s a fun ride and I am a beginner. About a month ago I took the MSF Motorcycle course and did fine (For those who don’t know it’s a 3 day intense course teaching you the building blocks of riding basics). I feel pretty confident on my new bike and I took on quickly and I usually ride with some friends around on runs. Out of us 4 I’m the only one who doesn’t know how, I know it is dangerous and I want to take my time learning so I don’t get hurt in the process. I know it’s not the power of my bike stopping me because out of my three buddies, one has a 500r like me, the other a 600 kawasaki, and the other a 1000 suzuki. Please if you can try to be specific.

  1. I spent all of my racing days, trying not to wheelie

buy a new chain/belt so when yours goes, you will have a spare

  2. Yull shoot yur eye out kid

  3. If your on public roads why not just stick to being a save driver?????????????????????

  4. Plenty of ways on here to do one, I hope you drop it and get caught. Then you will know why most of the rest of us think is its stupid

  5. Not hard. Rev the engine in low gear and pop the clutch. Put your girlfriend on the back. Here is a good example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ys36RanKC...

  6. Select a flat road, no bumps, no incoming traffic or dangerous obstacles (parked cars, trees, cops, etc.).

Coast about 10 miles an hour in first gear.

    Clutch released.

Make sure you are centered on the bike, hands and shoulders relaxed.

Place your foot over the rear brake pedal (without pressing on it).

Give it a sharp turn of the throttle (but not too much on your first attempts).

The front wheel will come up.

Try again, this time, giving a nice even tug on the handlebars.

Try again, with a bit more gas.

Pay attention here: if you feel your front wheel is too high, hit the rear brake.  That's why you want to make sure you are balanced and the rear brake right underneath your foot.

Eventually you will manage to balance the bike (i.e. you are not doing a power wheelie).

Once you get it at 10miles per hour, you can repeat at various speeds.

    Remember:

    - you MUST land the front wheel down in line with the rear or you'll get tossed over the handlebar

    - you MUST remember that nothing excites some cops more than a wheelie, perhaps not even their wife.  Get caught and you may end up making friends with unsavory people at the local jailhouse.

    - you MUST be willing to accept that if it goes wrong, you will crash and hurt yourself and the bike.

    - Did I mention that rear brake?

Now, if you are like me, I don't really like pulling wheelies except on dirtbikes or ratbikes.  Too cheap to fix my bikes, too chicken to do it on bigger bikes.

  7. there are a few ways, i did one on accident the other day, i had my g/f on the back, and i just wound it out in first, power wheelie...oops

  8. pull in the clutch at about 6grand rpm, rev it to about 10grand. let the clutch out.

make sure your covering your rear break.

make sure your tires are warm.

    and yes... it will jump.
