  1. I ran it in college a couple of times, but not when I was at my best. I was a good hurdler, taking the barriers very low. Learn how to hurdle. Your coach can help you there, or a friend on the hurdle side of things.

The water barrier is tough. You want to spring off the cross beam far enough so that only one foot lands in the water just a few inches from the opposite shore (in about six inches of water). This cushions your landing a little bit and puts your next step right back on the track. Don't go swimming!

A steeple man has to have tremendous endurance AND strength. It's is one of the toughest events in all sports. And, since few people understand track at all, get used being asked, "Steeple chase, huh, what kind of horse to you ride?"

Love the steeple. Make it your own. Don't look for too much help on the computer. That's time wasted when you should be out on another 10-mile run.

  2. The site below gives an overall on middle/long distance running and is well worth exploring. Hurdling etc is a separate art.
