I have a recipe I really like, it involves Udon noodles, but the only kind I can find have no english on the packaging and it seems like they come out so salty every time, I've tried rinsing them afterwards but there's still a lot of salt afterwards. If that's just how they come is there any replacement I could use that has less salt?

  1. Leave out the soup base. Use your own soup or season them however you want.

  2. if it comes with the soup base you just boil the noodles first and then add the soup base.

i dont think your suppose to rinse them.  maybe your not using enough water.

  3. here are some sites

  4. maybe theres too much msg and salt is in the soup base.  i prepare my udon noodles this way:

first, while waiting for the water to boil, i always pour cold water in a separate cup and mix the soup base with the cold water. then while putting the udon noodles in the pot of boiling water, i pour the cup of cold water (that has the soup base mixed in) and make sure that some of the msg and salt are still in the cup. then i wait a few minutes, and it's ready 2 eat! good luck on preparing the udon noodles!

  5. Udon noodles are boiled and you can google it if you want to but all you do is boil them

  6. what are udon noodles???

  7. Udon noodles come in two forms of packaging. Dry like pasta and "Instant" pre-cooked with soup base. I am not sure which one so I will give you both answers.

Question: if there is no English on the packaging, how do you know its udon?

    Dry noodles:

packaging comes in a 12 -16 oz package. use 8 qt pot fill with water but no salt. Heat to boil. add noodles, wait when water starts to overheat and boil over, add half cup of water. Repeat twice. Check noodles. drain if done.

    instant:

two cups of water per package. Do not add soup base. Boil water first add noodles, cook three minutes.

Udon is not salty but it does not taste like pasta. It has its own taste. Cooked correctly it has a slightly chewy texture. If you still do not like the udon, try somen noodles.
