  1. You would dissolve 1 mol MgCl2 in 1 litre of water and you would have:

    MgCl2 <=> Mg2+  +  2Cl-

    This solution would therefore be 1 molar Mg  2+


  2. [Mg2+] = 1 M means 1 mole of a salt containing Mg2+ + enought water to reach the volume of 1 L

    The salt must be soluble so we can take Mg(NO3)2.

    Molar mass = 148 g/mol

    We use 148 g ( => 1 mole) + enought water to reach the volume of 1 L
