Question:

How do you preserve a moth/butterfliy after they have died??

i dont have any strange chemicals and i would rather not have them in a frame(or a book) but i would have them almost any other way

please help

  1. let it die..

    then put it in an airlocked container of your choice

    just make sure it doesnt have contact with air

    i kept my moth in an easter egg =D

    and then i put it in an airlocked glass container


  2. slide in a baggie and seal

  3. normal taxidermy.

    on a board, foam or something similar

    pin through the thorax, pref just to the left, with some other pins arange the wings as you like, leaving the pins under the wings so as they dry in place, put in a box (prevents moths from eating it)

    an leave for a few days

    to kill it put it in an airtight jar with a cotton ball that has been dipped in nail polish remover (acetone)

  4. you can try surfing the net for basic knowledge. But for beginners, it usually involves the drying of the specimen on a spreading board. No special chemicals are needed(except for naphthalene balls which will deter pests from eating your displayed insects)
