How do you prevent XBOX 360's "Ring of Death?

My 360 had a system failure and showed the "Red Ring of Death". Microsoft fixed it (hopefully not "replaced" it since its the Halo Limited Edition 360) and I should get it back in a few days. I was wondering if there is any way to prevent another one of these system failure induced red rings.

  1. Easy trade it in now  and pay a bit extra for a new one or buy a ps3 with a 0.03 failure rate, compared to a 36% xbox failure rate. I was going to buy the same mdel aswell but as soon as we got a deal with a tv i know that i will never turn back to xbox.

  2. Make sure your system isn't on top or very close to objects that produce heat. If possible keep it in an open area and keeping it upright will make heat up less often. Oh and there is a good chance when your Xbox comes back it will have a Jasper motherboard which uses less energy so you won't hear it as much and less chance of overheating.

  3. All my friends who played Xbox nonstop got the red ring of death. If you're a hard core gamer, and like to play for more than 4 hours at a time (like almost anyone) there's very little you can do. Although I love my Xbox, I'm not impressed by the failure rate of their units.
