  1. I agree totally with the first answerer. I give my birds scrambled eggs at least three times a week and I crush the egg shells into the prepared eggs.

      A good pellet food is essential to give the most balanced diet possible.

      And don't forget the fruits and veggies!!


  2. The best way to prevent any bird from getting egg-bound is giving it a proper diet. Egg-binding is most commonly caused in birds because of calcium deficiency, so you should give them generous amounts of crushed egg shells and dairy products periodically, since they're rich in calcium. But once egg-binding occurs, it's fatal in most cases. However, if the egg-binding is diagnosed early and the egg-bound bird is taken to an avian vet in time, there's a good chance that the bird will be saved.

    For first aid, many breeders recommend putting an egg-bound bird on a grille over a dish of steaming hot water, as the steam relieves the bird's anal muscles and eases the passage of the egg. But that's first aid and no substitute for an avian vet. Hope that helps...
