How do you prevent cotton clothes from shrinking?

Just washed some clothes, with cold water and I hang dry them. Will that prevent them from shrinking?

I usually wash my cottons clothes in cold water and I put them in the dryer on the lowest setting for no more then 5 minutes, then I hang the clothing to air dry the rest of the way.  In my opinion, I think the short dry time softens the fabric and releases some wrinkles, I've not had a problem with shrinkage with this method.

    hot water cleans better but will shrink them

  5. You can even wash 100% cotton in warm, but would stay away from hot water.  Drying in dryer causes shrinkage, as well.

    I use warm/warm, then hang dry.  That keeps my tall size shirts and pants the right size.  Only problem is having to iron the shirts.
