ok .. how do u pronounce anti ???

coz i used to pronounce it as anti ... (EN-TEE)

but i hear some ppl say anti as (EN-TYE) as in sying the name tyler ..

which one is correct ?

  1. The UK pronunciation is "ANT-EE".

    Pronunciations such as "ant-eye", "sem-eye", "Eye-rack", "Eye-ran" and so on are considered (by us British) to be the American and are a sourse of great amusement to us.


  2. Your pronunciation is the correct one in received English. The classic English pronunciation is (ant- ee) and it is the one that prevails in Europe, ex- British dominion countries, and countries that speak Romance languages such as Italian/Spanish/Portuguese.

    The ant-aye version is American and accepted in the USA.

    Anti is a Latin word and people in the USA have started pronouncing the "I"s as in as "aye", but it is very peculiar when you think of the city of "Pompei" being "Pompe-aye".  In Europe it is considered an affectation.
