Do you vibrate the back of your throat? I heard that you could actually master it by gargling frequently every day?

  1. Mostly pronounced as rolling R

  2. hey i'm dutch!

Well, they pronounce the R different in the north then in the south of Holland. In the south it's more like a rolling R, in the north more like a 'flat' R.

If you go to this site: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rollende_r

You'll see it's dutch, but like in the second paragraph (below "Van voor naar achter") you'll see in blue letters the word 'beluister', which means: 'listen'. Those are the four most common R's in holland, the first one especially.

    Good luck practising!

  3. I've heard a legend, that dutch intelligence service was able to findout people of German nationality before WW2 based on a certain sentence with several "R's", which nobody except a Durch is able to pronounciate correctly.

  4. Yes, it's a guttural sound, similar to a French "R."
