My friend told me it was like, "U.S. Weekly", but my mom says it's "Us" (like, you and me).

Are you talking about the celebrity gossip magazine Us Weekly?

If the word "Us" is written "US" or "U.S." then it stands for United States but it's not so your mom is right.
