Question:

How do you pronounce "apricot" and where are you from?

My friend and I have been debating the pronunciation of apricot. I am convinced that both "ape-ricot" and "app-ricot" are correct, but my friend is not convinced.

I was born and raised in Northern Virginia, and I say "ape-ricot" while my friend who was born and raised in Northern New Jersey says "app-ricot." Another girl I know who is from New York State (Holland, NY I believe) says "app-ricot" as well.

So, I was wondering if I am pronouncing it wrong, or if both are valid pronounciations (such as "car-mel" and "care-a-mel").

Where are you from? How do you pronounce "apricot?" I am somewhat convinced that how you pronounce it has something to do with where you are from.

Thank you.

Though I hear both pronunciations in my area, both my family and I pronounce as Ape-ricot.

...and never in my life have I heard Caramel ever pronounced 'carmel'.

  2. I've never had an "appricot" in Mississipi, but if they are anything like the "ape-ricots" I'm sure there great!

***your post is disqualified if you are from "Daleville" MS. ***

  3. Um, I'm from Mississippi and I've always said APP-RICOT :)

  4. Give it up for APE-RICOT! What What!  MISSISSIPPI!
