Pronouncing the French R is... I don't know if I am pronouncing it right. I pronounce it hard like a German, like errrrrrrk, like gargling or preparing to spit. (Sorry if that was disgusting.)

  1. Well... The way that I have heard it pronounced is like rolling your "r's".

  2. here is a nice website: have fun !

Each time the example is repeated three times: first exaggerated, second less exaggerated, third the natural way we would say it in French

Edit: it's the same for the "r" at the beginning of a word! e.g the color "rouge" (red) here:

  3. roll it, like spanish.

  4. Here's a video that may help:

  5. pronounced like "air"

  6. they are pronouncd like saying in air in french

  7. That's it, just like German /r/, but a little stronger! raise the back of your tongue and pass the air with a strong fraction between the back of your tongue and the back of your palate (soft palate).

  8. well not that hard, just pronounce it naturally, english speakers tend to put a lot of effort into it, but the key is to do exactly the opposite. Just say it naturally, like in "a droit"(to the right), you dont need to extend it, just say it, "a drruaht", it only needs to be at least an R like in roster, or ride, or ring, just never an R like in drew, or New York.

  9. It cannot be written, it can only be shown with audio.
