  1. haha that's mine and about 14 other people at my school's last name.

    the americanized way--new-yen

the twinkie way-- win (win is more correct for some other name)

the right way--depends, there's 3 dialects depending on which part of vietnam the person is from. It's hard to describe but you're definitely saying it wrong if its more than one sylable.

  2. Howard is a bit right; the rest is all wrong.  The only way is to listen to a native, seriously!  Impossible to show the phonics.

  3. Guy - yen.  The N is silent

  4. in USA the is def pronounce "win". This was the last name of a friend of mine in highschool.  A funny side note, his first name was pronouced like "we".

    true story

  5. to an american (me) i say "win" or barelt an "n" nwin

  6. sounds like:

    new-yen

  7. In proper Vietnamese, the Ng is the same sound as the English ng in words like sing, and the u is pronouced like an English w.

It's hard for English speakers to say correctly because we are not used to putting the ng sound at the beginning of a word. Try saying "sing-when" then leaving off the "si"; all it takes is practice.

  8. its like win or wen...

dont listen to the ones that say stuff like "N-GU-YEN"

there are about 10 people at our skool with that last name.
