It's really pronounced LEE-beh-ro, but nearly everyone here says le-BEAR-ro.I go back and forth, depending on what the other people are saying :D

It's a Portuguese word, sort of, since the whole libero thing started in Brazil.  They say "LEE-bur-oh" so that's what I say too.  Many people unfamiliar with Portuguese say "lee-BEAR-oh," which has become an accepted pronunciation, but it's incorrect.

Actually, it is from the Italian word libre which means free.  The correct pronunciation is LEE be ro.

You do not pronounce the sign for late September and most of October birthdays as lee BRA.  You pronounce it LEE bra.
