How do you pronounce the word "aunt"?

All of my friends pronounce it "awnt" but I've always pronounced it "ant". Is there a correct way?

In American Engish, there are 2 acceptable pronounciations:

1)  just like ANT

2)  AWNT

The correct way is awnt.

But I say "ant" as well, it's more common and it's more trendy :)

Like you would say aren't.

Have heard it pronounced 'ant' but never 'awnt'.
