Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen,

Tod und Verzweiflung flammet um mich her!

Fühlt nicht durch dich Sarastro Todesschmerzen,

So bist du meine Tochter nimmermehr.

Verstossen sei auf ewig,

Verlassen sei auf ewig,

Zertrümmert sei'n auf ewig

Alle Bande der Natur

Wenn nicht durch dich Sarastro wird erblassen!

Hört, Rachegötter, hört der Mutter Schwur!

It is an opera song that my teacher wants me to work on, and rather than listen to the song over and over and probably mishearing the pronounciation, I thought I would ask.

  1. Do you really think you can understand the pronunciation better when it's written down instead of listening to the original?

I'll give it a try anyway, because it's fun ...

Note that when I write 'cch' please pronounce this like the 'ch' sound in "loch".

When I write 'h I try to express the "soft" ch sound in German that has no written equivalent in English.

now work on this in comparison with the actual German words and listen to it spoken.  I know it's difficult to understand Opera singing...trust me I have had my share of Opera, but once you get familiar with the words you will be able to pick it all out properly.
