I'm German and have never heard of this one. My name book tells me it's Old German meaning "tall". I guess it has simply fallen out of usage, since I've never come across it.

But yes, it's pronounced Gah-lee-nah. IE is said like EE in german.

Sorry but that is not German, nor Dutch, nor Swiss, nor anything German. That is most likely a latin surname from Romania or Spain, but not Germany, never. German last names never end with the letter "a" nor do their words, never unless it is a influenced word. You should be able to tell it is not German, German names are normally based off of their profession years back, like farmers named "Bauer" or "Schneider", so that was there inherited last name.
