Does it automatically go to neutral when you hold down the clutch, or do you actually place it in neutral?

  1. no it doesnot go in to neutral automatically, push your clutch in an move your stick to the center of your console or shift pattern. you can move it around freely in the neutral position. hyope this helps, have a good day.

  2. Yes, when you push the clutch in, you disengage the engine from the transmission.  You are not technically in neutral at this point however, you have only disengaged the gear.

To place the transmission into neutral, move the floor selector into the middle position ( where you can row the gear lever from side to side )

  3. you put it in neutral. in a standard stick shift when the stick moves freely straight across, you are in neutral. (when you are not in any gear, you are in neutral)
