  1. I assume you mean to thread the machine?

    there should be a little pattern printed on the machine, otherwise follow the instructions in the booklet that comes with the machine.

If by "string", you mean "thread", then different machines are threaded different ways.  All machines will have the thread passing through a tensioning device, through a take-up lever, and through a needle.  Sometimes it's front to back through the needle, sometimes it's right to left through the needle, sometimes it's left to right through the needle -- just depends on the brand and model of sewing machine.

    Note that you must also thread a bobbin on all lockstitch machines (most home sewing machines)!
