I recently replace an exterior door from wood to foam insulated steel. I would now like to cut two small holes to fit to small windows where the top panels are. Can I do this with just a circular saw and a carbide blade?

  1. This sounds like the panel in a UPVC door. Is it steel or aluminum.

What ever as long as the steel is not to thick you should be able to cut through this with a Jigsaw and a blade for cutting steel. As to fitting the windows you will need some way of fixing them and sealing them in place.

Is it not possible to change the panel in the door!! Just a thought.

  2. Bad idea. The windows defeat the purpose of having a solid steel door plus you will never be able to make it look right or seal properly. If you really want window, change out the door for one that comes with windows from the factory. Sorry...

  3. Why?  If you want windows in a steel door, buy an exterior door with windows in it.  No matter how you do it, the glass will leak rusting the steel door from the inside.
