How do you put elastic in tap shoes?

My daughter has tap shoes with ties and I have to put elastic in them instead of ribbons. I am not the domestic type I hope someone can help me!

  1. umm well they should lace up like regular sneakers if not then u can ask a dance teacher at her dance school , Just ask around and they'll tell you .


  2. Elastic Closings for Tap Shoes are made by replacing the ribbon ties that come with the shoes. For each shoe, use 2 ½ to 3 inches of elastic about 1/4'" wide. Put the elastic through the grommet holes, overlap and sew it closed by hand. This makes them into easy slip-ons which is especially great for the younger ones who have trouble tying!   Please be sure your child can get their foot in and out of the shoe before you sew it closed. Make sure you get the right color elastic as requested by the instructor (black, white, clear, etc).  There isn't much sewing involved, just a few stitches, so you should be fine...

    In case you're not comfortable sewing them in yourself...You can purchase "tap ties" (elastic closures) for tap shoes. They look like little hair ties.  Sometimes you can get button or decorative embellishments with the Tap Ties.  "Tap Ties" are sold at most dance wear stores including:
