How do you put the darn top down on a BMW 318i?

just bought a cool little gas saving 96 318i, and was in such a rush to get to work i didn't ask the guy i bought it from how to put the top down. can ne one help me with this one? I would be very greatful.

if its electric, pull the handle out above you in centre and twist till it unlocks from window framing then give it a push up about 6-7 inches, then in front of gearstick there's a button, like an electric window button, press that and it will automaticallly fold back as it should. if it stops after a few secs, give it another little shove up as sometimes they need a helping hand. let me know how you get on, Bil

there should be a button in the center consul that has a picture with the top down you press and hold it until the top goes down

To put the top back up (close it), should be the reverse of the put down procedure. Hold the button down till it is completely shut.
