  1. Don't light them. It is actually easier than you think. People go on about how hard it is to give up, making you think they have a point...but really, all you have to do is NOT buy any and NOT light them if you do get your hands on them.

  2. There really are some twatty answers here. Have those of you who have already quit forgotten how hard it was?

I stopped smoking with the aid of Champix (Chantix) I only took for 4 weeks to get me through the initial difficulties. It worked for me and my mother where Zyban and nicotine replacement had not done so. I have no cravings at all for a ciggie.

I have avoided being in the homes of smokers. Being out in restaurants/pubs etc is easy these days, just stay put when your friends pop out for a smoke.

What ever you do don't stop trying to give up, it took me 10 years of trying, I even smoked a little when I was pregnant, but finally I got that monkey off my back.

  3. A lot of willpower and maybe try the patches, they help to get rid of the cravings! Good luck!

  4. Try to stop completely for one day. If you fail, everyday, smoke one cigarette less. If you can't do it, try every week. Or throw all your cigarettes away and don't buy anymore.

  5. I recommend making a promise and telling other people.

  6. Dont buy ciggarettes and look at pictures of lungs when people smoke...

  7. Yep - just stop. No patches, gum, etc. - it's all in your head. If you want to do it, you will.

  8. well. there are 2 types of smoker. 1st are the people who are physically addicted and the 2nd are the mentally addicted. i was a mental one and i smoked everytime i drank alcohol and when i drove so all i did was try to slowly not smoke everytime i drove. eventually, i didnt get the urge to smoke when i drive. another tip is that 50% of smokers just need something in their mouth, so try a straw or toothpick.

  9. I quit using gum to replace the nicotine and yahoo answers to replace the habit....but do whatever you think will work best for you. A lot go cold turkey, some cut down gradually until they're on none...its up to you, just keep trying until you succeed. My one tip for anyone quitting is to save the money in a clear container to see just how much you are saving...it really is a big incentive when you find it hard going

    Best of luck

  10. i got pregnant and had no choice

  11. When a very good friend of mine passed away last year from smoking, is when I decided then that I was done, and it was no picnic let me tell you. The best free smoking advice I can give you is at this site.

  12. are u serious? omg people in todays society are ignorant.... put down the dam cigarette and dont buy anymore... i used to smoke but i stopped buying them and i havnt smoked for 3 years

  13. My uncle gave up with the help of an NHS Stop Smoking Group. He found that being with other people in the same situation as him helped him to try harder and gained him a couple of friends too. At the group you explore different ways of giving up and find the best method for you personally whether it be to do it cold turkey or with the help of stop smoking aids. Hope this helps:-)

  14. I used patches on the NHS scheme, also read the Allen Carr Easyway book and after that I didn't even need the patches anymore. Also after just a week I could feel the benefits, now over 3 months and I''ll never smoke again.

  15. i don't know how to quit smoking but try

  16. hie

all these websites will help you with tips and information but it needs your efforts to in quitting smoking

  17. To me, it just depends on whether or not you really want to. I know a few people who don't seem as though they truly want to stop. I feel it's purely mind over matter and if you possess the will, determination and no longer the NEED to smoke, you can then overcome it and quit. It's probably just not that simple but what other way can you stop, if you don't use those patches or chew the gum (if indeed those actualy work) ?.. I think you should quit slowly, meaning that you progressively smoke less and less in a day, until you can find that you just don't need it anymore.

  18. Dont buy or borrow them, dont light one, and dont inhale one. How you do those things differ for everyone. Some can just do that others substitute smoking for something else (IE Eating etc)  I hear that the first 2 weeks are tough then it gets easier.  I stopped one day and never wanted another again.  Its up to you to really WANT to quit. Goodluck

  19. dont buy any smokes

your mates will get sick of your scabbing and slowly they wont lend you any

  20. I can`t say for you coz everyone`s different, I`ve been quit for 9 months now, I started smoking lights for a year, then i went on to silk cut for about 6 months, then i just used patches for a couple of weeks (free from docs!). Its the best thing i ever did and my mates are jealous coz they can`t quit. I`ve saved a few bob too!, it`s definitely worth doing, once you`ve stopped for a week or two you`ve got something to build on. I smoked for 15years and if I can do it so can you. Good luck.

  21. Pick the ideas that make sense to you. And then follow through - you'll have a much better chance of success.

    PREPARING YOURSELF FOR QUITTING...

.Decide positively that you want to quit. Try to avoid negative thoughts about how difficult it might be.

.List all the reasons you want to quit. Every night before going to bed, repeat one of the reasons 10 times.

.Develop strong personal reasons in addition to your health and obligations to others. For example, think of all the time you waste taking cigarette breaks, rushing out to buy a pack, hunting for a light, etc.

.Begin to condition yourself physically: Start a modest exercise program; drink more fluids; get plenty of rest; and avoid fatigue.

.Set a target date for quitting - perhaps a special day such as your birthday, your anniversary, or the Great American Smokeout. If you smoke heavily at work, quit during your vacation so that you're already committed to quitting when you return. Make the date sacred, and don't let anything change it. This will make it easy for you to keep track of the day you became a nonsmoker and to celebrate that date every year.

    KNOWING WHAT TO EXPECT...

.Have realistic expectations - quitting isn't easy, but it's not impossible either. More than 3 million Americans quit every year.

.Understand that withdrawal symptoms are TEMPORARY. They usually last only 1-2 weeks.

.Know that most relapses occur in the first week after quitting, when withdrawal symptoms are strongest and your body is still dependent on nicotine. Be aware that this will be your hardest time, and use all your personal resources - willpower, family, friends, and the tips in this booklet - to get you through this critical period successfully.

.Know that most other relapses occur in the first 3 months after quitting, with situational triggers - such as a particularly stressful event - occur unexpectedly. These are the times when people reach for cigarettes automatically, because they associate smoking with relaxing. This is the kind of situation that's hard to prepare yourself for until it happens, so it's especially important to recognize it if it does happen. Remember that smoking is a habit, but a habit you can break.

.Realize that most successful ex-smokers quit for good only after several attempts. You may be one of those who can quit your first try. But if you're not, DON'T GIVE UP. Try again.

    INVOLVING SOMEONE ELSE...

.Bet a friend you can quit on your target date. Put your cigarette money aside for every day, and forfeit it if you smoke. (But if you do smoke, DON'T GIVE UP. Simply strengthen your resolve and try again.)

.Ask your spouse or a friend to quit with you.

.Tell your family and friends that you're quitting and when. They can be an important source of support, both before and after you quit.

    WAYS OF QUITTING...

Switch brands .Switch to a brand you find distasteful.

.Change to a brand that's low in tar and nicotine a couple of weeks before your target date. This will help change your smoking behavior. However, DO NOT smoke more cigarettes, inhale them more often or more deeply, or place your fingertips over the holes in the filters. All of these will increase your nicotine intake, and the idea is to get your body used to functioning without nicotine

Cut down the number of cigarettes you smoke

.Smoke only half of each cigarette.

.Each day, postpone lighting your first cigarette 1 hour.

.Decide you'll smoke only during odd or even hours of the day.

.Decide beforehand how many cigarettes you'll smoke during the day. For each additional cigarette, give a dollar to your favorite charity.

.Change your eating habits to help you cut down. For example, drink milk, which many people consider incompatible with smoking. End meals or snacks with something that won't lead to a cigarette.

.Reach for a glass of juice instead of a cigarette for a "pick-me-up."

.Remember: Cutting down can help you quit, but it's not a substitute for quitting. If you're down to about seven cigarettes a day, it's time to set your target date and get ready to stick to it.

    Don't Smoke "Automatically"

.Smoke only those cigarettes you really want. Catch yourself before you light up a cigarette out of pure habit.

.Don't empty your ashtrays. This will remind you of how many cigarettes you've smoked each day, and the sight and smell of stale butts will be very unpleasant.

.Make yourself aware of each cigarette by using the opposite hand or putting cigarettes in an unfamiliar location or a different pocket to break the automatic reach.

.If you light up many times during the day without even thinking about it, try to look in a mirror each time you put a match to your cigarette - you may decide you don't need it.

    Make smoking inconvenient

.Stop buying cigarettes by the carton. Wait until one pack is empty before you buy another.

.Stop carrying cigarettes with you at home and at work. Make

  22. The Hardest and fastest way is just Cold Turkey.  But probably also the most effective.  Or just chop the number of cigarettes per day in half and replace it with nicorett and every week or two cut it again and so on and so forth. Hope this helps.

  23. well..I've been unsuccessful too but I almost made it once.the new drug chantix really does help alot if you can take it.(it made me sick to my stomach)you have to take with food. And I believe you have to really hate it.I think that's why people who quite are so judgmental and nasty to those that are still smoking.I never wanted to be that way.I'm sure you have to get your mindset that you are gonna do it.the chantix does make it taste nasty and you light one and put it out after a couple drags.I got down to about 3 a day.My mistake was, I allowed myself those after eating cigs.I wasn't tough enough. It's very hard but if you're determined I know alot of people that this drug has worked for.good luck and if you figure it all out..let me know ok?
