  1. Why do they call it chili when it's hot?

What do people in China call their good plates?

Why do we put suits in garment bags and garments in a suitcase?

  2. You "catch" a cold the same way you "catch" syphilis; by being exposed to the organism which causes it.  You "turn" 21 because it would sound silly if you "twisted" 21.  Since everything was once new, any changes to it are considered by many to be improvements, whether true or not.  Another weird twist of our language is to say a sterile man "shoots blanks".  If there are no "bullets", he can't be shooting anything of substance (pun intended).

  3. When someone throws you a cold...

You turn 21 like a piece of meat turning rotten.

Anything can be improved, new or not.
