How do you "finalize" a DVD+R disc after burning?

I've read some answers here in regards to DVD+R discs not playing on most dvd players. A few people said to finalize it after you've burnt the movie. How do I do this? Thanks...

your computer program has to finalize the disc or it won't work on anything, this is ussually done automatically.

I made a disc of music videos from MTV on my computer, my expensive sony dvd player won't play it, My $25 wal-mart dvd in the bedroom does,  also ps2 and ps3 seems to play it fine.

I think it not your disc but the dvd player.
