in a 10-team league, your #3 WR (in theory) is going to be ranked after #20. here are some of the most viable WRs outside the top 20 (in no particular order):

Driver

S. Moss

Bowe

Coles

Calvin Johnson

Ward

Harrison

Berrian

Galloway

Cotchery

Hackett

Evans

Curtis

A. Gonzalez

Chambers

Which of these:

a) would you want MOST as your #3 WR?

b) is not worthy of drafting with the intent of being a weekly starter?

c) is the best value (you can wait an extra round or 2 and he'll still be there- but you have to be ok with drafting him as a starter)?

please answer all 3 parts, feel free to drop any other additional analysis.

  1. A) Chambers - people seem to be forgetting him, but he was pretty good last year for learning a new offense in the middle of the season

    B) Bowe - that team is a wreck. No O-line and young QB means few complete passes

    C) Harrison is sliding to the 5th. If you can snag him there and he gets healthy, you've got a 3rd round talent

  2. A. Curtis

    B. A. Gonzalez (3rd string WR Wayne, Harrison, Clark will always get more touches.)

    C. Curtis is the best value by far, he'll probably be taken later in drafts but he's number 1 WR for the eagles and mcnabb should come back in better shape this year look for a big year from curtis.

  3. KC Joyner wrote a great piece on vertical passing metrics back in April. Find the article because it identified several surprises, including the fact that Jerricho Cotchery had a better Vertical YPA than either Andre Johnson or Marques Colston and was only a hair behind Reggie Wayne.

#1 Bowe – Worthy; bigger, stronger, faster (I’m talking about L.J. here.); Bowe is solid.

#2 C. Johnson – Worthy; inconsistent, but a solid draft pick for keeper leagues.

#3 Ward – Worthy; Holmes and, now, Sweed, free the veteran of double coverage.

#4 Evans – Worthy; better-than-average value at draft; trade before the snow arrives.

#5 Driver – Worthy; too much focus on Favre’s departure; maybe, he’ll drop a round.

#6 S. Moss – Worthy; God bless Jim Zorn; one extra round but don’t pass him up.

#7 Coles – Worthy; 55 catches and 6 TDs in 10 starts last season with an injured ankle. A rebuilt offensive line means as much to him as it does Thomas Jones.

#8 Cotchery – Worthy; Super value based on my initial comments about YPA

#9 Hackett – Barely worthy; all eyes are on Smith and Stewart to carry the Panthers.

#10 Curtis – Barely worthy; Reggie Brown works harder.

#11 Galloway – Barely worthy; if Brett lands in Tampa Bay, someone will overpay.

#12 Chambers – Barely worthy; I don’t buy into the San Diego passing renaissance.

#13 Harrison – Not worthy; His knees are a big risk. There’s a Colts fan in your draft or someone who rode Marvin deep into the 2005 playoffs who thinks there’s still enough magic left to do it again. Let them pick him.

#14 Berrian – Not worthy; third-down in the red zone, you see the Vikes throwing?

#15 A. Gonzalez – Not worthy; Wayne, Harrison & Addai won’t leave leftovers.

Unranked value – Isaac Bruce; overlooked because of San Francisco’s quarterback situation, he’ll be re-united with offensive coordinator Mike Martz; he’s a great late-round veteran who will fly under the radar screen on draft day.

  4. A) Evans

    B) Chambers

    C) Driver (shouldnt go in the 8th)
