Rank these four, with #1 at the top of your list, and #4 at the bottom:

Steffi won 22 Slams & 107 singles titles in her remarkable career. In 1988, Steffi captured the calander year Grand Slam(all 4 majors in one year). Steffi was a former world #1 ranked player.

Sabatini won 27 singles titles in her career. In 1990, Sabatini upset Steffi to win the US Open, capturing her lone Slam. Sabatini's highest ranking was #3, and she played in 3 Slam finals.

Jana, a Wimbledon champion, won 24 singles titles & 76 doubles in a fine career. Jana's highest ranking was #2, and she played in 4 Slam singles finals.

Jennifer has 3 Slams & 14 singles titles to her credit. Jennifer won 2 of her 3 Slams in 2001, and was ranked #1.

I would rank Steffi #1, Jennifer #2, Jana #3, and Sabatini #4. Steffi at #1 is a no brainer, and Jennifer is a solid #2. It's close between Jana and Sabatini for #3, but I give Jana a slight edge over Sabatini.

Rank these 4, and please explain your rankings?.

  1. Essentially you're asking who is ranked higher, Sabatini or Novotna, right?  I mean it's pretty obvious by most people's measurements that Steffi is #1 and Capriati is #2.

I think Gabriela Sabatini was the slightly better player.   She performed a little better in the Grand Slams.  She seemed like she was more in contention for the Majors than Jana Novotona was.  Plus, I just checked out the WTA site and they played each other 13 times.  Sabatini led the series 10-3.

That said, the difference between Novotona & Sabatini is pretty close.  My answer might be a little biased because Sabatini was very attractive, and thus, was a darling of the media and sponsors.

  2. #1 Steffi Graf - For all the reasons you mentioned above and the fact that no one dominated the game quite like her.

#2 Jennifer Capriati - Her comeback was one of the most remarkable stories in the sport. Everyone had written her off as a simple child prodigy that the game no longer had room for. And yet she won three slams and became number one in the world. It's s shame her career was cut short by the injury problems. I always felt that Capriati was capable of winning the four majors, maybe not in the same year, but definitely in her career.

#3 Gabriela Sabatini - Often considered a choker by many, still she had very consistent results in the majors for quite a number of years.

#4 Jana Novotna - A solid doubles career and finally that elusive Wimbledon title was hers, at last. Still I believe Sabatini was a far better player than her as Sabatini holds a winning record over Novotna (10-3), and even though Graf dominated the both of them, Sabatini's record against Graf is a bit better (11-29) when compared to Novotna's record against Graf (4-29)

  3. No offensive here.  To be honest with you this is a no brainer question.  Your ranked is as good as mine.

  4. steffi   capriati sabatani and navotna
