  1. Look at his win %, good horse trainers will have a high win %.

  2. what you have said is not a bad way to rate them for me i use the racing post and check on there strike rate related to the particular course were they have runners also on past form too i find post data is not a bad guide aswell.

  3. Follow trainers who are consistently in form.

  4. by size

  5. strike rate would certainly be the most common way.

but there are many different factors you can look at. of course a trainer with more horses in his yard may have a better chance of winning more contests so to simply look at the races won is not particularly fair.

some smaller yards consistently churn out an excellent number of winners and a great factor of this would be being able to place horses in suitable races.

a good trainer will know exactly what distance, going type and riding style best suit the horse and find a suitable opportunity to try and maximise its potential

  6. a good trainer=somone involved in racing for more than 10 years, experience is vital,a good eye for horses at the sales,a good but patient man/woman who understands the horse,a good run/win ratio, plenty of money which means good facilities/equipement to train the horse, preferably newmarket based but thats just me as i live nr there :)  a trainer who listens to and advises the owners and not someone who is the "my way is the only way" type.

  7. percentage of runners to winners and their consistancy

  8. You shouldnt confuse great horses with the trainers being good. the quality of the horse is the most important part.

  9. you have to be a level 2 to rate a trainer!!
