  1. Some colors that fade can't be brought back to like new.  RED and dark Blue, and some greens.  Sometimes you have to resort to wet sanding with 600 grit. sandpaper before buffing.  There are several "color restore" products at the marine supply store.  I've never had any that I thought worth the extra money.

Follow  Jim S advice on buffing, he knows his stuff.   Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

  2. Best way is to "compound".  Get a buffer, Some finishing compound ( i like 3M hi-cut), and go to work!  Remember to use a low speed buffer, and keep moving.  This will remove the oxidization that has formed on the gelcoat, and buff out light scratches.  After you've finished buffing, scrub the boat with a soft brush and fresh water, and dry with a chamois.  Then apply a marine wax with UV inhibitor, and hand-polish.  Two coats of wax is enough.  We do this at our marina, polish the chrome, clean the interior, and clean the tops for about $30 per foot on most boats.
