"What country are you from?" I kept inquiring as to what gave her the impression I was from another country. She finally told me she thought that because of my demeanor. She didn't really tell me where she thought I was supposedly from though. Have you ever gotten this question? I mean, I am of mixed ethnicity, but I never really thought about this before.

  1. I had somebody ask me what I was...when I told them of my mixed heritage.

    A cultural thing I suppose.

  2. I wouldn't think much of it, but I'm in Canada.

We realize, for instance, that there's a world of difference between a black man from Sudan and one who's from the Caribbean, so it's more polite to ask than to make false assumptions.

    Perhaps she was just intrigued.

  3. For some reason a frequent customer at my job asked me where I was from because she thought I was from the Islands(Caribbean). Still don't know why.
