  1. E|--1----------| 1st String

    B|------2------| 2nd String

    G|----------3--| 3rd String

    D|--------------| 4th String

    A|--------------| 5th String

    E|--------------| 6th String

    1st (high e) = skinniest string

    6th (low E) = fattest string

the numbers represent the fret you hold down (1 = 1st fret). 1st fret is closest to the tuning pegs (furthest from where you strum) and it the number goes up from there...2, 3, 4...and so on. go from left to right when reading the tabs. the higher the fret number, the higher the pitch of the note. if numbers are directly above or below each other you play both strings at the same time. 0 = hold no fret down (open string). X when playing chords (multiple numbers directly in the same place vertically on the chart) means don't strum that string

  2. -------------------------------------

    -------------------------------------

    -----------------------------4------

    ---------------------3--------------

    -------------2----------------------

    -----1------------------------------

the numbers represent frets, and the lines (dashes) represent the strings. the fret farthest away from you, at the neck is "1", and the small one closest to your picking hand is "22".  The bottom line  (the one with the 1 on it) is the lowest note on the guitar, which is the thickest string. if there are two numbers on top of each other it means you play them at the same time

    --------------14----------------------...

    --------------12----------------------...

And you read it right from left to right. Good luck.
