How do you read "guitar tabs"? I don't understand them.?

Your tuning is likely basic EADGBE (vs the GADGBE menitioned).

Okay. So you know how to **** strings right? Now you know how to count frets? ok here is an example:

---------

---------

---------

---------

This means you put your finger on the 7 fret of the 1st string. The lines represent strings. THere are 6 strings. There are 6 lines.

they either have the chords to play or the picking tab:

E--------2---------------2--

B----------------5---------

G----1---------------------

D-------------------------

A--------------------------

G--------------------------

meaning you put your finger on the 1st fret of the G string and just hit that string, then put your finger on the 2nd fret of the E string and hit that one,.....then just continue.

Then there are slides and such but those are easy to figure out, usually just a ///// or something like that.
