How do you read this: HI(aq)?

If it is HI(g), it will be read as hydrogen iodide. But if it is an aq solution, we follow this: ate-ic; ite-ous..

But it's -ide!! How do you read it? I answered hydroiodic acid! huhu.. Was I right?

  1. If it's HI(g) Its Hydrogen Iodide "gaseous"  not hydrogen iodide

    HI(aq) means hydrogen iodide aqeous also u can call it as HYdro IOdic Acid ur correct


  2. Your answer should have been accepted...HI(aq) is as much hydroiodic acid as is HF(aq) hydrofluoric acid or HCl(aq) hydrochloric acid...instructor error. The gases are -ides, the water solns -acids.

  3. I would think hydrocloric acid but thats hcl not hl.
