How do you read your books?

Do you wait till you've finished it then continue to read another, or do you read multiple books at the same time?

I've too many books in my "to-read" lists, do you have any suggestion how to read book fast, so I can finish reading it all in a short time?

Thanks!

  1. I also have way too many books in my reading list.

I occasionally read more than one book at a time, but that is usually when I'm in school and I will be reading a book for school and one of my own books.

I would just stick to one book at a time, but if you want to read them fast, then just spend a lot of time each day reading.

    Good luck with your reading!!

  2. I usually read one at a time. I used to read two to three novels at once, but I soon realized I was only reading the first few chapters of each novel, then I would read one of the novels until I finished it, then go on to the next one and read until I finished that. So, basically, I wasn't actually "reading" three novels at once. Sorry, I know this is confusing.

  3. I take it easy and just read one book at a time :-) But then again, I'm a quick reader, and if you're not, reading more than one book at a time is not going to help. :D Good luck, happy reading.

  4. I like one book at a time. It helps for me, and makes it easier. I usually accomplish this, but every now and then I get in a muddle and end up with multiple books, all at their exciting climaxes, that I need to finish. AHHH!!!

  5. i often read about three books at the same time, though it can sometimes go up to 5.  sometimes i'll be in the middle of some giant fantasy or sci-fi series (robert jordan's wheel of time, GRRM's A song of Ice and Fire, Foundation by issac asmiov, ect), reading a non fiction historical or science book, some sort of thriller (so i can read in public places without looking like a total geek) some book for school, and finishing off some series that i read a couple years ago and now want to finish.  I rarely confuse plot lines, though it might be because all of the books are radically different.  as far as how i read books, i'll often race through the big fantasy/sci-fi series, and then forget a good deal of the book, and i can spend months on the non-fiction, reading on and off.

as far as how to read fast, i really can't make any suggestions.  i think everyone has a "natural" reading speed, which may or may not increase over time.  just don't make the mistake that i do of putting down a book and decide to finish it years later, 'cause it's a pain.

  6. I generally read one at a time so i dont mix storylines and such.   I try to read after work and during lunch... in a weekend if the book is good i can usually get through about 2

  7. I like to finish one book before I start another one. I find if I am reading too many books at the same time that I'm not actually focused on and invested in any of the books.

I don't know any proven methods to learn to read faster, but I would recommend just reading more - exercise your brain and eventually you will get faster. I'm a fast reader - but also I don't read every word. Your brain is very good at filling in the sentence if it has the key words.

    Good luck.

  8. I read up to 6 books at a time and go from one to the other!

  9. I usually try to wait until I'm done with one book before I start another but for some reason I always break that rule so you'll often find me with a different book a day. But halfway through, whichever is more interesting I finish that one first then finish the other. But the fastest way is usually one at a time because when you really get into a book you usually read it faster and you can't concentrate if you're to busy thinking about the plot to another book or how the main character of this book is similar to the main character of the other book.

Also to Misplaced Tourterelle  she might have a to read list for school or maybe she wants to be organized, making a list doesn't mean she thinks reading is a chore it just means she has to many that she wants to start but can't decide

  10. I like to read one book at a time.  It's not that I confuse plots if I'm reading multiple books, but I really just prefer to concentrate on one at a time.

I personally don't see the point of a "to-read" list; reading isn't a chore to me, nor is it something necessary.  I don't force myself to read if I don't feel like it.  But, perhaps that's just me.  If you would like to finish your "to-read" list quickly, spend more time reading daily.

  11. I'm a student, so I have no choice but to read multiple books at once.

  12. I've always been able to read very quickly, but that happened even when i was young. I think either you have the ability to absorb entire sentences with one glance or you don't. It's not due to intelligence levels, merely a skill some have and others don't.

I can generally handle reading a few books at once, depending on the difficulty and depth of the novel. Some novels require all of your concentration. I find a combination of a 'meaty' novel and a good collection of short stories the best bet for me.

I also write a list of books I would like to read. Although I have a very quick reading speed, this is combined with the memory of a sieve. Can't win them all i suppose.

  13. one at a time usually, unless i find a book that I have to read while I'm reading another. then i'll switch back and forth between two.   Yea i don't have a to read list.

  14. I read one at a time and if I am enjoying it I read slowly and savor it. There are literally thousands of books I want to read, but what is the sense if I am only going to skim over them? Pax-C

  15. I prefer reading one book at a time, but sometimes I tend to start a new book before finishing the one I'm reading at that moment. Confusing plots and characters isn't an issue for me. And I usually take my time with a book so that I can enjoy it.
