  1. It just depends on how much and why you're drinking alone. If it's just a beer or two with TV or dinner to unwind, and you're not doing it more than a couple times a week, there's nothing wrong with that - even if you're alone. It's only a problem when you're drinking enough to get somewhat drunk and on a very frequent basis - like more than 2 or 3 nights a week. Then you may want to step back and evaluate whether or not you're trying to cover up bad feelings or a problem in your life.

I have an odd schedule, so sometimes having a drink by myself is the only way I actually get to enjoy the beers or wines I like... it would be a different story though if I was drinking almost every night, or if I was drinking enough to get significantly intoxicated by myself.

I'd try Googling for an online alcoholic screening test, if you really want to be sure.

  2. I get a lot of lip from my roommates/friends about me being an alcoholic because I drink several times a week and usually alone. So it depends on who you talk to. I consider a person to be an alcoholic if it causes major financial, social, and work problems. Anyways alcoholics are people who go to meetings and do twelve step programs. I don't consider myself an alcoholic, but maybe at the most a weekend drunkard.

  3. An alcoholic is dependent on it.  You can't function without it.  If you are drinking the minute you get home til the time you pass out and wake up the next morning, then yeah, you have a problem.  It sounds to me that you use it to relax you after a long day.  The amount of alcohol is what you need to worry about.

  4. you are probably on your way  you don't say how old you are but please be careful & don't drink and drive

  5. If you have a blackout (a period of time that you can't remember what happened),

If you have hallucinations while drinking,

If you have the shakes the next morning,

or any one of the three,

then you are an alcoholic, according to the American medical Association.
