  1. Some magnets are just  trash once they're dead. Like fridge magnets.

    You can sort of recharge a permanent magnet by taking another magnet and rubbing it from pole to pole. You gotta rub it back and forth along the same axis like a million times. The goal is to line up the atoms in the metal so they are all running in the same direction. But don't expect much from this technique.

    FYI, permanent magnets are first magnetized by hitting them with a HUGE electrical current repeatedly. This is also how magnets in electric motors are repaired. So maybe take it to an electric motor shop and they'll have a machine that will make it easy.

    If you are comfortable with high current electricity then you can figure out how to do it yourself but I wouldn't recommend it considering you're asking about it in the first place.
