Does democracy only involve choosing the leader? Then it's over to them.

  1. none of us voted that clot brown......did we???.........

  2. Democracy is about choosing our leaders.  Those elected to govern then elect from within their ranks a party leader.  There has always been the view that democracy in the UK follows a model of 'benevolent paternalism' - i.e. we vote for them then they make decisions on our behalf.  That view is changing - there is greater emphasis on the need for evidence based reasoning and consultation - though clearly there is a long way to go - not least because we need to be much clearer about what we mean by consultation.
