How do you record 8mm camcorder tapes using a Protron dvd recorder?

I'm trying to record my 8mm tapes onto dvd but when I plug everything in, I can't hear any sound. My camcorder is a Sony CCD-TR66 and only has two sockets for the a/v cable. Does this make a difference when I'm trying to use a three prong a/v cable? I've tried just playing it on my VCR and I can hear the sound but when it comes to the dvd recorder, I can't hear a thing.
