How do you recover a power-on password?

I would like to recover a power-on password - not reset it, because i cannot remove the bios battery. Is there any way to do this (preferable free)?

I'm using an hp Compaq 6515b laptop. thanks in advance

  1. Ha ha good luck. we had the IT department trying to crack into my boss's old computer. This is what happens when you fire someone and don't get their passwords. We ended up ghosting the hd to retrieve the files.  


  2. download " Hirens Boot cd" burn to cd and boot from it it has many programs on it and some are for password recovery

  3. You most likely will not be able to. You can remove the jumper on the motherboard (should say CMOS password or something similar)for approximately 30 seconds and then put it back on. this should remove.

  4. there is no way of doing this unless you have another user on that same computer who is an administrator in which case you can use their account to change your password.  

  5. Page 46 of this document tells you how to reset the password.
