  1. When I think about "recovery", I am usually thinking about how to give my muscles a break after an exceedingly hard training ride or race.  The goal is to pump some blood through the muscles to help them rebuild and get the soreness out so I can get back to training.

You are talking about an very different kind of "recovery."  A hard fall can cause significant bruises, muscles tears, joint damage, connective tissue damage, etc.  In my experience as a mountain biker, you've got to let pain be your guide.  Movement often helps dissipate the pain of a fall, but you've got to listen to your body.  If you are suffering excruciating pain, or pains that shoot through your body with movement, you probably have something worse than mere bruises.  You body is telling you to take it easy and get checked out.  On the flip side, if the pain dissapates pretty rapidly after impact, you are pretty likely to be just fine.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Hey,

I kinda know how you feel. About a month ago i stacked going down a MASSIVE stair set. I started riding again as soon as i could even though it hurt because otherwise i'd lose confidence. a week later i went back and did the same stair set again sucsessfully (but not as fast). It doesn't matter about your physical state as long as you're able to ride, it just matters about your mental state.

  3. As the old saying goes...If you fall off your horse just get back upon it . Everyone learns from their mistakes

  4. You can keep going.  But when you get done, put an ice pack on the area.  Ice it down for a good half hour.  If there's swelling  or pain, you probably should ice it right away.  It's a judgement call.  But ice is your friend.
