  1. If the light is on turn the gadget off.

  2. Turn off your computer at night.

Don't leave chargers hooked up to electricity when not charging.

Run your dishwasher only at night so it doesn't heat the house up.

Use ceiling fans to make you feel several degrees cooler and leave the A/C set at a higher temp.

Turn the fans off if you're not in the room.

  3. Don't keep anything on standby. Especially not the microwave, computer screen, printer, TV

  4. You can also get hand cranks for things like cellphones and PDAs.  Magnetic flashlights that you shake

  5. Switch them off at the plug. Also, as they need replacing, replace with wind up alternatives, you'll be amazed at what you can get, wind up torches, wind up radio, wind up ipod........

  6. Switch them off (not standby) when not in use.

  7. Unplug everything when not in use. I've reduced my electric bill by between $50 and $70 for the last few months by reducing standby electricity. I have my tv, vcr, stereo and game systems plugged into a powerstrip with a switch, when they aren't in use I flip the switch no more vampire electricity. I also unplug all chargers when they aren't charging, including laptops, cellphones, and toothbrushes.

  8. Try not using the gadgets.

  9. Switch them OFF, all af my gadgets TV, VHS ( still got one ) DVD, DVB, Satellite receiver,  are on a multi plug that I just switch off after I have watched what I want, the only thing that has a problem is the VHS as it forgets the time, but I don't record much so it does not bother me, this can save quite a bit of power as al these so called standbys use about 400 watts an hour doing nothing, that makes about 50p to a £1 a day easily. £30 a month ???

  10. Switch off when not in use and don't use if not necessary.
