  1. long story short..my family and i moved there from seattle the day before we evacuated and we went to birmingham for a month =]

  2. I was in Iraq and watching it on TV (it was all BBC, CNN, and FOX were broadcasting).  It was clear the storm had flooded NOLA really badly, but I didn't know for sure about Lakeview until August 31st. The Times-Picayune's website (www.nola.com) showed a photo that day of Lakeview taken from the Filmore bridge over the Orleans canal.  The photo was of houses about two blocks in a straight line from where I lived, and the water was above the eaves of the roofs.  I knew then we weren't going home except to salvage a few things from the wreckage.  Unfortunately, I was right.

However, all of my extended family and friends were able to evacuate and we didn't suffer any personal tragedies. Almost all of us were made homeless but all we lost was "stuff".

  3. Lets see...

I left the northshore the moring before, and it took me 18 hours to get to Houston. Stayed there for 2 months. When I came back, my house had trees inside it. Didnt go to school until late Oct.  Started to rebuild and I still am today...

and im about to do it all over with Gustav

  4. We left Aug. 28, 2005. at the last min. I was 5mos. pregnant and my daughter was 15mos. old. We were staying.we were going to ride it out. So my momma suggested we go to the Superdome. I said h**l NO!!! I'm pregnant, i'm ah be hot and un comfortable. so she said we'll stay home. Then she woke me up like 2:30am talkin bout go get me some gas. I got up and went ound the corner and people were up and about like it was 2:30 in the afternoon. Well I got 20 dollars worth of gas, the station was running out of gas so We had like 3/4 of a tank and we left 6:00 that morning. It was miserable, I swear i just wanted to get out of line on the I10 and just quit and give up, but we couldnt it was a contra flow. One way out no way in. We tried to get on a greyhound or amtrak, cuz Ray Nagin said we could that nite, but they turned us around. it was like 8 hours plus til we made it to Baton Rouge. I got off the interstate and got some gas mind you we hand a crack raditor, till this day I still say JESUS held the gas in that tank all the way to Baton Rouge in that siitin traffic. I was so sore on my butt fromm sittin in traffic that long. My mother and myself still wondering how I did it, it was so hot no wind was blowing, couldn't turn on the AC cuz of gas, GOD!!!! meanwhile we slept in our car for a week, cuz all the hotels were telling us they were booked(LIARS), so this "Angel" let me my baby and my momma stay with her and just our luck she worked at one of the INN's and we got a room. we stayed there for a whole month. All the while with nothing but the clothes on our back we kept washing at the La Quinta. Driving around lookin for shelters givin out food. First they said we can go back after 3days. it came then they said a week. a week came we got on the bridge, the state troopers made all of us turn around on the bridge and leave. Then they said 6mos. then a year. We couldnt believe. We were like what are we going to go, my things our things, everything we own GONE!!!!! Our city was 90% under water,I didnt believe it. Then these bogous REd Cross numbers I swear it was like 10 different numbers. I stayed on hold waiting for the next FEMA and Red Cross representative for 10+ hours I SWEAR IT!!!!! Our cellphones were broke no communication we didn't even no that our people were stuck back down there until power was restored in all of Baton Rouge.(Power was out for a min.) Well that felt good. Nice to get that out. i NEVER WANT TO GO THROUGH THAT AGAIN. That's why I havent gone back.
