How do you remove Generic PUP.d from computer and still keep files?

Question

My computer got a virus and my Mcafee sytem keeps on alerting me. Then i click to remove it, then it asks me do download another companies product and ask me to agree with a contract. I never did that because i don't know if it is legit because it does not mention Mcafee anywhere. I scan and remove the PUP but every time i restart Mcafee has the same alert. I also got a trojan with the PUP that changed my PC background into a alert. Again i remove both the PUP and the trojan but Mcafee still alerts me that there is Generic PUP.d and a trojan i don't know what to do someone please help me. And if there is no way to save my files what is a way to get rid of the pest.

try to do a scan in safe mode

Dawnload  Malwarebytes anti malware  at their site

which is

malwarebytes.org

then scan C: show result  delete selected

then u need to reboot  the computer
