We live on a lake that is flooding because a beaver dam is blocking the outlet of the lake. We have permission to remove the dam from the property owners, but how do we remove the beavers and remove the dam so the lake can return to normal levels?

  1. I have often found that eating beaver solves a lot of lifes problems. Hope that helps.

  2. You will probably have to use explosives. It will kill the beavers, but like I always say. "Eat a beaver...Save a tree."

  3. Dynamite works extemely well.

  4. One of the worst things you can do is remove a beaver dam yourself, assuming you don't kill yourself in the process.

First, you are begging for huge fines. Gotta is actually right about that, too bad he is being such an idiot about the rest.

You need to start by calling your local EPA, which has the oversight of water bodies in your area, and conservation district offices, the soil and water offices, and your local game commisioner.

Do not attempt to remove the dam or the beavers yourself. You could easily end up losing everything you own. Several of the laws you would violate include the option to sieze your home, vehicle and all assets.

You should keep in mind if it is in a location where it is causing problems in a lake, especially a man made lake, that there are people whose job it is to handle it.

There is effectively no such thing as a landowner of a lake, you don't really own bodies of water or streams in the US, only the land around them. Govt. agencies effectively own all bodies of water over a very minimal size specificly to prevent people from doing stupid things with and to them.

Get the right people and the right agencies to do the job for you. They may kill it, they may relocate it to somewhere that is less of a problem, but don't set yourself up for a disaster by listening to bad and illegal advice.
