How do you remove an armrest from a 2004 highlander?

  1. The hardest part is removing the plastic cap.  On mine, it needed to be turned about a quarter turn before it would release.  I used a jar lid opening utensil from the kitchen. (The tool was like an old nut cracker, hinged on one end, but thin.  Some kitchen scissors also have a jar lid gripper on them.) It would be best to mark the top of the cap (12 o'clock), so that you can line it up to the original position when putting the cap back on.  After the cap, a socket wrench can remove the nut.  In addition to the nut, there is a regular washer, a curved washer, and then between the armrest and seat back, there is a spacer bushing type of thing.  Off and back on are easy.
