My husband and I just bought a house, and the previous owner had sealed the deck, but some of the stain spattered on the siding. Is there a way to remove it after it's been dried on for a long period of time?

  1. try alcohol on a cloth

  2. Depends upon the type of stain.

If it is a latex stain, Oops multipurpose remover may do the trick.  Be careful with it, the chemicals will soften the siding.  Try not to leave it in contact with the siding any longer than needed.  You can find Oops in most paint deparments.

If it is an oil stain, things are a bit more difficult.  Chemicals that will cut the stain will also soften the siding very quickly.  Mineral spirits is about as strong as you can go, may work or may not depending upon the stain.

With either of these options, test in an area that is not visible first to make sure your siding will survive.  Vinyls are different, what works fine on one brand may eat a hole in another.

Also, if there are large blobs of stain, you should use a razor blade to shave off as much as you can before you start with the solvents.

If neither of these work, you can use Softscrub or similar to clean.  It will remove the stain with some work.  It will make a spot on the siding, as it will actually remove a bit of the siding surface.  How noticeable this is will depend upon the color of the siding and how faded it is.

  3. I had the same problem Opps worked well for me I tried both the spray and the liquid the liquid worked best I used a scrub brush to get in the siding and wiped off some stains took a couple trys but they are all finally gone.

  4. try  using a  mr. clean magic eraser
