  1. Depends entirely on what the stain is, but you can generally just use washing powder in tepid water not hot as that will set the stains (wear gloves or your hands will be raw and itchy) and either scrub with a small nail brush or rub with a cleaning cloth, then rinse with water and let dry. HOWEVER do not do a thing to them if it is a specifically nasty stain like boot polish, oil, grease, crayon, red wine etc, check the links below first, if you wash a stain before treating it correctly it will often times just set the stain.
